Why hello, dear reader,

It’s been a minute!
In fact, it’s been a whole lunar cycle since I last wrote to you. How are you, sweet human?
(Did you know you can hit reply and actually tell me? I love to read your responses and am happy to hear from you!)
After my last e-mail to you, a few things in my personal life started to unravel and demanded my attention.
The heaviest of all: receiving the news that my precious cat, Monster, has squamous cell carcinoma forming in her mouth—an aggressive cancer, common in cats. They told us she’d have from days to weeks left with us; and I pray as I write this a few days in advance that she’ll still be with us by the time I send this Moonletter.
(Ember’s editing note: Monster is still with us, but it doesn’t seem like we have much longer…)

The uncanny timing, is just a week before getting this heart-breaking diagnosis, I wrote a blog post about how grief is love with nowhere to go.

The piece explores how when we anticipate loss, our hearts practice mourning before the moment arrives. I touch on the tender intersection of love, fear, and impermanence — and how a simple ritual can transform pre-grief into a daily practice of gratitude. And the ritual, and blog post, was written very much with Monster in mind… almost as if I knew this time was coming sooner than later.
Needless to say, this month has been challenging for myself, my partner, and obviously, Monster as well. The weight of the grief, mixed with the weight of this impending unknown, the disruption to daily routine, and the energy drain from the extra efforts towards Monster’s care and comfort has created such a diminished capacity.
And if I’m being 100% honest, I was already starting from a point of low-capacity— now realizing I’ve been navigating autistic burnout for the last few months.
And don’t even get me started on the world events and politics…
Are you feeling any of this too, dear reader?
so hope you’re thriving; and if not, remember that you’re not alone. So many folks are feeling worn down for so many reasons—times are tough.

I’m being urged to remember the beauty of life too, though.

Times might be tough, but we’re complex, multidimensional beings that can hold more than one truth at once—even if those truths seem paradoxical.
Driving home from town last week, the sunset was just fading, and I caught the smallest glimmer of pink in the sky along the horizon; past the trees that line every rural property on my route home. It was a pop of colour, amidst the grey sky, the muted trees, and slushy white & brown snowy ground. Like a messenger of hope. Reminding me that it’s not all doom and gloom.

And that’s the beautiful (and sometimes maddening) paradox of hope—how it isn’t about denying hardship, but coexisting with it. And I’m finding that it’s often subtle.

Hope doesn’t have to be something grand or distant. What if we could find hope in the smallest, quietest places? Where might you look for it?

Today, I wanted to offer you something new (and free)—

Hope, glimmers; they don’t always arrive in grand gestures—sometimes, it’s a flicker, a whisper. This 7-min guided practice poured out of me, from my own need; and is designed to help you notice those glimmers with ease.

Being in receptivity is a practice.

It’s a softening, a willingness to see the light even in the smallest spaces. This guided journey invites you to gently shift your awareness toward the moments that bring even the tiniest sense of warmth, safety, or possibility.
You can listen to ‘Glimmers’ now on Insight Timer (coming soon to YouTube). I hope this practice serves you well. And if it does, I’d love to hear about the glimmers you find. You’re also welcomed to share this practice with others, it’s public & free. Where can you notice your own “pops of colour” amidst the grey? Sending love,
